This month has been a great month for us here at Ardnahein filled with lots of fun and exciting activities. Below I will be sharing all of our activities from January.

On the first of January, David Gillian came into do some highland dancing for us. This was a lovely treat for us and was a nice activity for our new years day celebration. Thank you David, we always enjoy when you come into to entertain us.

On the 2nd January, we played the Price is right. We got products from the local supermarket and guessed the price of the items. We were very shocked at the prices and was a very big change from what we are used to.

On the 3rd January, We used our new equipment to  play a game of tipping point. This was a very interesting activity. We first had to answer a question to determine how many coins we would receive and then we placed the coin into the machine to see how many points we would be awarded.  Well Done to Kath and Jean who won the game with the most points overall.

Something that is very important to us is our hopes and wishes. We have a Thankful Tree which we keep at the front door, this is filled with our wishes and hopes that we wish to achieve. It was time to update them for 2025. On the 3rd January we set our hopes for 2025. We will try our best to fulfil these throughout the year.

Ola enjoyed a One to One activity. She had a chat with our activities coordinator and then got her hair braided. Ola has always enjoyed putting braids in peoples hair and when she was shown the picture of her hair she was amazed and said oh wow.

On the 7th January, it was Eithiopian Christmas. We had a wee celebration for our Rahel. She was over the moon and was very surprised. We had got a cake and a present for her. We learnt how to say Merry Christmas in Ethiopian. Melkam Gena.

On the 8th January, it was Elvis Presley's Birthday. We started the day by  doing this day in history and then done an Elvis wordsearch. Then we had an Elvis themed quiz. We then finished by watching Viva Elvis

On the 9th January we held our first Coffee Afternoon of 2025. It was lovely to welcome everyone back after the Christmas period. Our coffee afternoon's take place every Thursday at 2pm. Everyone is welcome.

On the 11th January, we celebrated a very Special birthday. Kath turned an amazing 103. She had a lovely birthday party with her friends and then we got ready for a very special joint birthday party. Hugh celebrated his birthday on the 13th so on the 14th January we invited Kenny Wilson into sing for us and then we had a buffet dinner. Everyone had a fantastic afternoon and we are very grateful to Kenny for entertaining us.

Brilliant reminiscing activity this afternoon. We looked at documents from the royal wedding and then talked about Dunoon in the past. Lots of fond memories brought back. This was brilliant and sparked a lot of conversations between everyone. We were talking about it all afternoon.

On the 17th January, we held a Winnie the Pooh themed day. We played pin the tail on the donkey and done some colouring in. Was a great day and got to wear our jammies too.

We enjoyed a game of Scottish Bingo which we very much enjoyed. It was great to see the families getting involved too. We certainly like playing different themed bingo as well as our traditional Bingo.

On the 20th January, Betty and Hugh enjoyed a visit to St Johns Church. This is something we have been attending regularly and is very much enjoyed by the residents.

We have joined a partnership with Patchwork. Every Week we will be meeting the children and doing an activity. The first week the children came to visit us and we done some Ice breaker games. We had the parachute out to play with and then had a snack. Then the next week we went to them and painted our name in Chinese.

We got some new equipment as part of our exercise time. We done some chair exercises and then used the new Ribbons. Everyone involved enjoyed this greatly and will definitely be using these more often. They are good for our movement and are also very fun to use.

Our Church Visits are still a big hit with the residents. They always enjoy attending each week and having a chat with everyone after over a cuppa.

This month we also enjoyed a Chippy Tea from Anselmos Chip Shop. Everyone was very happy with the Fish and Chips, we even wrapped them up in newspaper to reminisce over the good old days.

Elizabeth enjoyed a drive around Kirn, passing Kirn Primary School. Elizabeth really enjoyed this one to one activity as this is where she grew up and remembered the area well.

On the 23rd January we celebrated Ola's Birthday. She had a fabulous day partying and lots of cake and chocolate because why not.

On the 24th January, Dunoon was faced with a very serious storm which affected shops, roads and lots of travel services to be closed/shut. We were due to hold our annual burns supper today however it wasn't our usual standard due to the storm and things had to be cancelled. That did not stop us making the most of it and thankfully the power didnt go off and we got our good old Haggis, Neeps and Tatties. After we enjoyed a game of Scottish Bingo and read some Burns Poems. We finished the day off with a wee dram

Even with the wild weather we did manage to continue our Burns celebrations on Saturday 25th.

A very big thank you to Jen for coming in to pipe for our residents and a big thank you to Arthur French for addressing the haggis. Our residents and staff had a great day. We really appreciate people taking time out of their weekends to visit us.

We enjoyed baking this month too. We made some Empire Biscuits which were delicious at supper paired with a cuppa.

Yesterday we talked about Australia Day. Many of us have relations in Australia so this was an interesting topic for us.

We talked about Australia Day that is celebrated every year on the 26th January.

Emma our Activities has visited Australia so she showed some photos of her time traveling followed by an Aussie slang quiz.

We then finished off the day with some Aussie snacks. We enjoyed a Milo drink paired with a Tim Tam.

On the 29th January, we enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year. In the morning we went to Patchwork and enjoyed a morning Painting our names in Chinese with the children. We then  enjoyed a three course meal in the dining room and made some Snakes in the afternoon as its the year of the Snake. Jessica one of our volunteers led this activity and everyone had a fantastic time. Thank you again Jessica.

Ian and Betty enjoyed a trip out to the Boat House on the last day of January for a cuppa and Ice Cream.
